West Derby has a substantial history, which was even mentioned in the Doomsday Book! It achieved significance as an area, even before the city of Liverpool did and it retains many historical features to this day.
West Derby village certainly has a unique appearance and its own character. It is a popular area, full of lots of families and young professionals, as well as older residents. The major children’s hospital, Alder Hey is located here, along with lots of local amenities and churches. West Derby is close to Queens Drive too so is the perfect base for travel out of the city.
Both of Liverpool’s football teams, Everton and Liverpool have had training grounds in West Derby; Liverpool’s is at Melwood and Everton used to train at Bellefield before moving to Halewood a few years ago.
Croxteth Park is a well-loved treasure in Liverpool and the huge 500 are park is Grade II listed. It attracts huge visitor numbers due to its historic hall, farm, horse riding facilities and playgrounds.
